Potential of Load Shifting in a Parking Garage with Electric Vehicle Chargers, Local Energy Production and Storage

The electrification of the transport sector is crucial importance for a successful transition to fossil-free society. However, electricity grid constitutes bottleneck. This article provides case study based on real-world parking garage with smart infrastructure, called Dansmästaren. analysis shows how renewable energy sources, storage technologies, and charging electric vehicles can smooth out load curve relieve during peak hours. Dansmästaren located in Uppsala, Sweden, equipped 60 points vehicles, PV system, battery system. utilizes an flow model show potential realistically dimensioned that benefit facility itself local distribution city, capacity challenges. results suggest demand be significantly lowered by smarter control its relatively small storage. Moreover, further strategies decrease up 60% high hours while still guaranteeing fully charged at departure near future scenarios. also shaving lower maximum peaks 79%. A better understanding public infrastructures vehicle helps increase knowledge they contribute more sustainable cities
